WHO I am

I believe the best tattoos come from slowing down and being intentional.

I work by appointment only, creating custom tattoos that blend neo-traditional realism with geometric and ornamental structure. I am drawn to bold, readable designs that feel natural on the body and are built to age well over time.

Alongside tattooing, I am a practicing forensic psychologist. That work has a direct influence on how I approach my art. In forensic settings, attention to detail matters, assumptions are tested, and decisions carry lasting consequences. I bring that same mindset into tattooing, where preparation, restraint, and thoughtful planning matter more than speed.

I spend a great deal of time in the design phase, thinking through composition, placement, flow, and how a piece will live on the body long term. Geometry and ornamentation are used to create structure and balance realism, not as decoration. Negative space is treated as part of the design, and every line is placed with intention.

Tattooing is permanent, and I approach it with care and respect for the process. I value clear communication, trust, and collaboration, and I work best with clients who are willing to take their time and be thoughtful about what they choose to carry with them.

This is a private, appointment-only studio so that each project receives the focus it deserves. If my work and approach resonate with you, consultation requests can be made by email.

MISSION

The mission of Derek Ream Tattoos is to produce custom, appointment-only work that blends neo-traditional realism with geometric ornamentation through a process defined by preparation, clarity, and intentional design. Each tattoo is created to hold its strength, balance, and meaning over time.

STUDIO

Derek Ream Tattoos is a private, appointment-only studio designed to support focused, intentional work. The space is quiet, controlled, and free from the distractions of a traditional walk-in shop. Every detail is structured to create an environment where both artist and client can concentrate fully on the design and the process.

I chose a private studio model because it aligns with how I work. Tattooing, like psychology, requires attention, presence, and thoughtful preparation. A calm setting allows for clear communication, careful stencil placement, and the kind of measured execution that large or detailed pieces demand.

Appointments are scheduled individually so that each client has dedicated time and privacy. There is no rush between sessions and no background chaos competing for attention. The goal is to create an experience that feels deliberate from consultation through completion.

The studio reflects the same values that guide my work on skin: structure, precision, and respect for permanence.
